Giraffe Educate Foundation is a fully registered Non-Governmental Organization, based in Uganda, that works to improve performance, quality and sustainability of rural, impoverished schools in Uganda. We promote a community-driven approach that engages the school community, school board, teachers and students. The approach empowers schools to identify their own needs and to successfully develop and implement their own five-year plans. We focus on long-term solutions that improve the lives and motivate communities, and we use practical technologies that can be maintained locally and are easy to sustain.
The future of Uganda
Mtoto umleavyo, ndivyo akuwavyo - This Kiswahili saying has been passed down through many generations. It has inspired our work to eliminate corporal punishment in schools, encourage peaceful conflict resolution, civic pride, mobilize local communities to inspire children to lives of joy, service, peace, and integrity, remove barriers to girls attending through middle and high school. The saying means The manner in which you raise your children is the manner in which they will live their lives.
Planting the seeds today for the leaders of tomorrow. Education is the way we will create peace and better lives in the future. We want all communities to have the skills and tools to raise their children in light so that as they grow the light will shine from them on all of Uganda.
Partnership
Giraffes are a symbolic animal often used in nonviolent communication as a metaphor for communicating with compassion and holding power with people rather than power over people. Giraffe’s have the biggest heart of any land mammal and are found here in Eastern Africa. Helping schools succeed in Uganda is not about dumping resources on problems and moving on, it is about building strong partnerships with local communities to harness the remarkable intelligence, vision and commitment that they share for their children.
High quality, early childhood education
GEF, is currently partnering with seven rural School communities in Kassanda District in Uganda with programs that aim to promote education and peace that will in the long run create social, economic transformation in Uganda and the world at large..
